April 20, 2007 - Living Christ Show w/ Chunnel

Review

Dave here.

Updating you on some of the "goings on" going on on the CUP scene.

Friday, April 20, 2007
Living Christ Show
Hanover Park, IL

First let's set the scene...
a. CUP hasnt played a non-barn show in almost a year... would they be rusty? or would they be russ-like?
b. They have a new CD available. Will the fans accept this or would they turn on their favorite musical jokesters?
c. Brad and Dave watched the Cubs blow a 1-0 first inning lead just hours before the show. Would this add unnecessary hostility?

If this show was a battle of the bands, would CUP win? Let's analyze some of the competition:

Chunnel of love: Just back from their North American Tour. "Steady Rock without the fuss." Good thing they break it up to play that acoustic song. It gives the audience time to fight back the good tears.

Bad Dudes: Would our Human Drummer compare to their Machine? Would this "Machine Rock" slowly start to catch on and dominate our youth counter culture?

Band #3: Would their lyric-less melodies remind fans of how music was not meant to be enjoyed?

Time will tell and has. This is what time has told me.

It was a rockin' show. We dusted off some older tunes and polished them with the same gentle attention that a new father would give to the hot nurse that his handing him his first child. The IFDS was there providing photography. (Thanks to Matt Guidera for taking care of that). And we were already getting feedback from our new CD. Not all of it was possitive but I would say that it was 50% possitive, 50% negative & 50% undecided. (Margin of error = 3%)

We sold alot of CDs & Shirts thanks to our new "Banner Marketing Campaign". Props to Chris Schmidt for the hard work, and thanks to Matt Harstead (Head of marketing and product distribution) for his efforts during the show.

I decided to "mix things up" that night and play the guitar out of tune for most of the show. My thought process was that maybe I should match my guitar style to the way I sing. It went over extremely well.

Jeff 2 did amazingly well given that he could not hear any of the other music that was going on.

Jeff 1 also did surprisingly well dispite his evergrowing pessimism.

Brad said he played like shit. you decide.
